I recently acquired another Water Lotus rhizome for my garden (see photo). The Water Lotus is a beautiful flowering plant that grows totally submerged in water.
It has a beautiful flower, and great plate sized green leaves (see photo) but most people don’t realise that the Lotus flowers, seeds, young leaves and rhizomes are all edible, so it is a great addition to the Edible Garden.
It is actually quite easy to grow provided it is planted in mud, gets lots of sun, the occasional feed and its rhizomes are always completely submerged in water.
This is one plant that won’t do well is potting mix, so I had to go and find a building site so I could get some lovely red “Redlands clay”.
It is now happily in its new home beside the recently installed Bali Hut. I can’t wait for it to flower so I can share a photo of the beautiful perfumed blooms!
